Located in the heart of the Anthracite Coal Region, the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 serves the borough of Summit Hill, PA. Summit Hill was a town born from the discovery of coal. In 1791 a hunter, Philip Ginder, discovered coal on Sharpe Mountain which led directly to the formation of the anthracite industry and fueled the industrial revolution. In mid 1897, the charter for the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 was drawn. Summit Hill is also home to the Switchback Gravity Railroad

Diligence Fire Company No. 1 is an all volunteer non-profit organization. We provide fire protection for all residents of the Summit Hill borough. Our coverage area is approximately 10 square miles.

We are located at 114 West Ludlow Street.
