The new web site of the Summit Hill Fire Department is neat, organized, and attractive.
The project of members Bobby O'Gurek and Dave Ogozalek, the site came on line Sept. 26. The two volunteers worked roughly 120 hours to design the site, and continue working to keep it up to date.
The address of the site is www.summithillfire.com.
Upon entering the site, the home page has - at the top of it - flaming letters which spell out in dramatic decor "Diligence Fire Co. No. 1."
Included are a calendar of events, pictures of events and incidents including the participation of the fire department in the Pumpkin Parade in Lansford and the fire department's open house, held during Fire Prevention Week.
There's a list of deaths. A link to Homeland Security lists all the fire department deaths in the nation.
There are safety tips, which are compiled with contributions from other fire department members.
A "Kids Zone" has coloring pages, activities, and games.
There is a page dedicated to Jackie Stoudt, an active member of the fire department who died while responding to a fire on Christmas Day, 2004.
One page is for National Fallen Fighters Weekend, held each year in Emmettsburg, Maryland. Members of the fire department always attend this event.
Informationis included on the site on the Anthracite RIT (Rapid Intervention Team), comprised of members of the Summit Hill and Lansford Fire Departments.
The history of the fire department is included on the site. There are details about the fire department apparatus and contact info.
Ogozalek said there will eventually be a store to sell shirts, T-shrits, and other merchandise of the Diligence Fire Company.
"We sat down, got a design together, and split up the work," Ogozalek said of the team work by himself and O'Gurek. "He took a few pages and I took a few pages."
Ogozalek has been a member of the Summit Hill Fire Department for the past 10 years. He is a 1998 graduate of Panther Valley High School. He earned a bachelor degree in computer information certification at Bloomsburg University. He is presently employed by Extol Software of Pottsville, an international software company.
O'Gurek graduated from Panther Valley High School in 1999, then earned a degree in web design by attending the main campus of Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville. He said he is presently seeking employment.
